DIY: Turning an Old Cabinet into a Baby's Changing Table

C and I picked up this cabinet from one of our neighbors. We had a vision of turning it into a dresser/changing table for our baby we are expecting in June. Here is what the dresser looked like when we got it. 


As you can see it needed a lot of work. We started by sanding off all of the paint, there was a blue layer you can see, then a green layer of paint underneath.



Next we painted the base color. We used Behr, Pumpkin Creme, two coats of paint.



Next was the fun part. the sea creatures. we purchased stensils at Hobby Lobby. Used painters tape to hold the stencil in place. Be sure to take every little bit you can to avoid the stensil separating from the surface causing the paint to run.


Here is the end result for the large drawer.


We continued this with the entire dresser, below is our end result. The baskets were also purchased at Hobby Lobby.

No Nausea in First Trimester?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and I have gotten sick a grand total of twice so far. What happened to the stories everyone has been telling me? Saying that they were so sick through most of the first trimester. At first I wondered if i had a false positive, or if there was something wrong with my baby. Turns out that not everyone gets nauseous during pregnancy. I consider myself extremely lucky.

Not only is every pregnancy different from woman to woman, it can also differ between pregnancies. Just because you have no nausea with your first pregnancy does not mean you won't be sick with your second baby. Also if you were so sick you couldn't get out of bed with your first, does not mean you will be sick with your second. Each and every pregnancy is different. You just have to find whats best for you and your baby. People tell me to eat saltines. Saltines make me nauseous because they are so dry. Just because one food has worked for one of your friends does not mean it will work or not work for you.

The fun part of pregnancy is experimenting. Just make sure you aren't eating or drinking anything that is harmful to your baby and everything will be fine.

Big News!!!

Big news!! C and I are pregnant! I am about 8 weeks along and feeling great. I know most of you mothers probably don't want to hear this but I haven't had any morning sickness at all! This is our first child and I have hardly had any symptoms. We are so happy. For those of you struggling with morning sickness though try taking your prenatal vitamin at a different time. I started mine in the mornings and would be nauseous but I switched to taking them right before bed and I feel perfect! I will keep you all updated!

Wonders of a Hair Cut

Yesterday I chopped off all that hair. Today I feel like a completely different person. I haven't had short hair for over 10 years and I love it!! I feel like a gutsiest person, like I could take on the world. I have always dyed my hair when I was ready for a change, but cutting off all your is better than dying it. It gives you a more fulfilling sense of change. This is just one of the many wonders if getting a hair cut. 
               I highly recommend it.

Yoga Poses To Destress and Unwind


Season is here in South West Florida. Driving is a nightmare this time of the year, sometimes you just need to unwind and destress before your head explodes. Here are my top yoga poses that really help me unwind after a tough day.



1. Downward Dog

Downward facing dog is not only great for your hamstrings, but also great to clear your mind and breathe. 

2. Lotus Position
Lotus is often the position that yogis use for mindful practice or meditation because it opens up your chest without any distracting stretching and making it either to focus on your breath.







3. Tree Pose

Only try this one if you have proper balance and posture. *hint* The higher you reach the more balanced you become.  This is true in both yoga and in life.
4. Upward facing dog
This pose helps you open your chest further that you thought was possible and makes breathing so much easier.

Top Songs for a Good Mood

I am usually a morning person but there are some mornings where my waffles and coffee just don't cut it and I need my music. I listen to anything and everything, but this playlist I have compiled is guaranteed to put me in a good mood to take on the day. 

1. Sound of Sunshine - Michael Franti & Spearhead 
               This song is made for the early riser, it brings the sunshine even when the sun isn't even awake yet. 

2. Ordinary Girl - Rebelution
           No other reason besides I just love this song.

3. On Top of the World - Imagine Dragons
           This is such a perfect song to wake up to because it fun and energetic without being too much.

4. Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
         Although this song is about staying in bed, it makes me excited for breakfast therefore I must get up.

5. Beachin' - Jake Owen
           This song gets me excited to go outside. Florida, sunshine everyday!

6. Cabin By The Sea - Dirty Heads
             So hard to be in a bad mood with this song playing. 

7. Brighter Than The Sun - Colbie Callat 
               Great song to sing along to!

8. Soak Up The Sun - Sheryl Crow
                This song makes me want to get up and go surf before work. (Doesn't usually work out that way)

                   I love the ukulele in this song!

Top Breakfast Foods to Ensure a Wonderful Day

I have created a list of my top breakfast foods that I love because they put me in a great mood. Not all of these choices are the healthiest choices, but you will have all day to work off the calories and they are just so delicious!

1. Waffles!
I recently got a waffle maker and it is the best thing ever! top it with some fresh berries and a cup of coffee and its the best morning.










2. Pancakes
Very similar to waffles, but puts a completely different spin on the morning. Waffles are crunchy and support the weight of a bunch of fruit, whereas pancakes are light and fluffy and did I mention they are delicious?









3. Fruit!
A nice bowl of fruit is the perfect way to start the day off. Its fun, colorful and healthy. Its a great way to start off on the right note.











4.Biscuits
Biscuits and jelly are easy and simple and still just as delicious as pancakes and waffles.











5. Smoothie

Don't have time to cook in the mornings or cut up fruit all pretty? Throw it in a blender! Smoothies are perfect for the girl (or guy) on the go. Throw all the fruit and yogurt you like in the blender, pour in a to-go cup and head out the door.
